BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Hill, tenor, from Laurel, Maryland recently finished his Master of Music degree in Opera Performance at the University of Maryland. He enjoys a varied career as a soloist and ensemble singer, based in Washington D.C. Recent opera credits include his debut with Washington National Opera as Older brother in Dead Man Walking, Parpignol in La Bohème with Wolf Trap Opera, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with the Maryland Opera Studio and Music Academy International, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with the Maryland Opera Studio, and Damon in Acis and Galatea with New Dominion Chorale.
Past solo concert work includes Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, The Evangelist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion, and Purcell’s Welcome to all the pleasures. He was a frequent soloist with the University of Maryland Bach Cantata series. As a choral musician, Matthew sings weekly at the Washington National Cathedral. He also performs as a soloist and chorister with the Washington Master Chorale and Washington Bach Consort.
Matthew recently won first place at both the local and regional rounds of the NATS competitions, won 4th place in the National Society of Arts and Letters Dorothy Lincoln-Smith Voice Competition, won the Choralis Young Artist Competition, won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions at the Washington DC District Level, and won 3rd place at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Middle Atlantic Regional Competition. Matthew received his bachelor of music in vocal performance from the University of Maryland on a Creative and Performing Arts full scholarship.
